What Is Gua Sha Therapy?

Gua Sha therapy is a myofascial soft-tissue technique that uses smooth-edged instruments to mobilize muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. It is used to reduce restriction, restore movement, and support natural tissue healing.

Controlled pressure is applied along muscles and fascial planes to help break up adhesions, improve circulation, and normalize muscle tone. Increased blood flow helps deliver oxygen and nutrients while assisting with waste removal.

Patients may feel pressure or scraping during treatment, which is adjusted to comfort. Temporary redness may appear due to increased circulation and typically resolves within several days. Mild post-treatment soreness is uncommon and short-lived.

Gua Sha therapy is commonly used for neck, shoulder, and back tension, sports injuries, postural strain, chronic muscle tightness, and restricted movement patterns.
