This page explains what cookies and similar technologies we use on koahchiropractic.com, why we use them, and how you can control them. We’ve kept this in plain English on purpose.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website stores in your browser. Sites use them to remember things between page loads (for example, your preferences) or to measure how the site is used. “Similar technologies” refers to things like browser localStorage that behave the same way.

What we use on this site

This is a small marketing site. We don’t have logins, member areas, or shopping carts, so we do not need any cookies for the site itself to function. That means there is no separate “strictly necessary” tier — if you decline, we block everything below.

1. Analytics & advertising (Google Tag — GT-5TC4FP9M)

We use a single Google tag that loads Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-93089NZN24) and Google Ads (account AW-990016291). When loaded, it sets cookies such as _ga, _ga_*, _gid, and _gcl_au in your browser.

These cookies tell us things like how many people visit the site, which pages are popular, and whether a Google ad led to a phone call — so we can decide whether the ads are worth running. They do not identify you personally to us. They are first-party in name but the data is shared with Google under their terms.

We rely on Google Consent Mode v2: the Google tag loads on every page and is allowed to set tracking cookies by default so we can measure visits and ad conversions. If you click Decline, the tag switches to cookieless pings to Google for aggregate counting only.

2. Advertising measurement (OpenAI — ChatGPT ads)

We also advertise on ChatGPT. To know whether those ads lead to real contacts, we load OpenAI’s measurement pixel (oaiq, served from bzrcdn.openai.com). If you arrive from a ChatGPT ad, it stores a first-party cookie named __oppref (roughly 30 days) so that a later phone-number tap or contact-form submission can be credited to the ad. It reports those events to OpenAI; it does not identify you personally to us.

This pixel is covered by the same banner: if you click Decline, it is not loaded at all and no __oppref cookie is set.

3. Reviews on the home page

Patient reviews on our home page are served first-party: we pull the rating and recent reviews from Google when the site is built and render them as plain HTML. This block sets no cookies and loads no third-party script, so it appears regardless of your choice here.

Each review may show the reviewer’s Google profile photo. Those images are downloaded when we build the site and served from our own domain, so your browser makes no request to Google to display them — there is no cookie, no tracking script, and no third-party image call. If a photo is unavailable, a simple coloured initial is shown instead.

4. Your consent choice

To remember whether you accepted or declined, we save a single value under the key koah_consent in your browser’s localStorage. This is first-party (only this site can read it), it never leaves your device, and it is the only thing we store when you decline.

How to change your choice

A “Cookie preferences” link at the bottom of every page re-opens the banner so you can pick again. You can also clear the koah_consent value from your browser’s site settings, and the banner will appear next time you visit.

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles outside of Google’s ad system.
  • We do not place any health-related or sensitive cookies on this site.

Changes

If we change which cookies we use, we’ll update this page and reset the banner so returning visitors are asked again.
